Styling Notes From A Mom Who's Been There

I had my newborn session booked before I had a single piece picked out. If you're in the same spot, here's what I wish someone had told me.

Choose neutral tones. Warm whites, soft stone, gentle sage. These colors photograph well in any light and they won't look dated when your child is fifteen.
Think about texture. Flat fabrics disappear in photos. Ribbed knits, waffle weaves, and bonnets with detail give the camera something to hold onto.
Skip anything with logos or loud prints. You want the focus on your baby's face, not the outfit.
Bring two options. Newborn sessions are unpredictable. A backup piece in a similar palette saves the day if there's a spit-up moment ten minutes in.
Trust the photographer on timing. Most newborn sessions happen between days 5 and 14. Order your pieces before baby arrives so you're not scrambling.
