Styling Notes From A Mom Who's Been There
I had my newborn session booked before I had a single piece picked out. If you're in the same spot, here's what I wish someone had told me.
- Choose neutral tones. Warm whites, soft stone, gentle sage. These colors photograph well in any light and they won't look dated when your child is fifteen.
- Think about texture. Flat fabrics disappear in photos. Ribbed knits, waffle weaves, and bonnets with detail give the camera something to hold onto.
- Skip anything with logos or loud prints. You want the focus on your baby's face, not the outfit.
- Bring two options. Newborn sessions are unpredictable. A backup piece in a similar palette saves the day if there's a spit-up moment ten minutes in.
- Trust the photographer on timing. Most newborn sessions happen between days 5 and 14. Order your pieces before baby arrives so you're not scrambling.
